A ladder is an absolute necessity for your pontoon. It's an issue of safety, legality, and convenience. Pontoon boats are used for recreation on lakes, rivers, and in certain circumstances, near-shore seas. Someone on your pontoon will want to go swimming at some time, and I'm sure they'll want to go back in the boat as well. Having a good ladder will make getting out of the water a lot simpler. Stainless steel ladders are more costly, but they are also the best available. They're sturdier than the lightweight aluminum ladders and can support the weight of a bigger swimmer coming up. They are also more corrosion-resistant. In any event, the handrails and rungs should be thicker rather than narrower, allowing for a more gripping area and, ideally, a non-slip surface with enough traction for wet hands and feet.
