Trim Seal fitting is for Yamaha Outboard applications. It is a rubber gasket that seals and insulates doors or hatches with radiused corners. Trim seals or bulb seals are two names for the same industrial rubber component. Whatever they're called, bulk trim seals are made up of a compressible bulb and a solid retainer piece.
Trim seal is constructed of sponge rubber and resists compression set, which is the permanent, irreversible deformation of a rubber seal after being compressed. Various compounds are available, although EPDM and TPEs are the most common.
EPDM sponge rubber retains its flexibility at low temperatures and offers good resistance to water, rain, sunshine, ozone, and aging. Weather-resistant thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) have a higher impact strength. TPEs are more expensive than EPDM, but they're also more environmentally friendly.
The seal's trim comprises solid rubber, such as EPDM or TPE, or plastic, such as PVC. A trim durometer that is tougher than the bulb durometer requires improved impact resistance. Rubber trim is typically smooth and black, but you can opt for a textured finish or a bespoke color if you want.
Interior tongues can be added to your trim area for added grip. Choose trim with steel wire or segmented steel cores for increased impact resistance. This type of trim can be cut with a hand tool, but abrasive water jet cutting produces higher-quality cuts with less work and material loss.
