Before you can diagnose the problem, you should have a fundamental understanding of what your outboard ignition system performs and how it works. The ignition system of an outboard is in charge of producing an electrical spark to ignite the mixture of gasoline and air in the cylinder (s). A small amount of oil is added to the fuel and air mixture in two-stroke engines to provide lubrication for the engine. All outboard motors require fuel, air, and a source of ignition. A pulser coil is a switch that provides a trigger signal to the CDI module on the outboard. The module receives a continuous stream of low voltage DC from the regulator, stores it briefly, and then allow the current to charge and the voltage to rise.
