This square-sectioned rope is firmly wrapped around the propeller shaft and compacted in place using a threaded nut and spacer, resulting in a leak-free propeller shaft. 3-foot lengths are available. Shaft packing and leaky stuffing boxes are both done with flax packing. Strong rovings and lubricant material are interlaced together to make Flax Packing. This combination provides improved packing life and performance. A drip-free stuffing box and a leak-free propeller shaft are protected with flax packing. It's very usual on boat propeller shafts.
