The explosive force of combustion in the combustion chamber pushes down the piston in an engine, which is the source of the engine's drive force. However, the piston is not driven straight downward in the strictest sense. The downward force that causes the piston to hit against the cylinder wall has a diagonal component, despite its tiny size. It will form friction as a result, and horsepower is lost. Lengthening the connecting rod prevents friction-induced power loss, and the engine becomes heavier and larger overall. There is a design that addresses both of these fundamentally opposing issues. This is accomplished by "offsetting" the cylinder from the crankshaft such that the piston and connecting rod axes are aligned vertically during the instant of combustion—when the cylinder's pressure is at its highest. The MARINER Outboard, 3,4 & 6 Cylinder. (118-01402) is perfect for your motor as it provides better service.
