An ignition coil (also known as a spark coil) is an induction coil in an automobile's ignition system that converts the voltage from the battery to the thousands of volts, an electric spark in the spark plugs is required to ignite the fuel. Some coils have an inbuilt resistor, while others employ a resistor wire or an external resistor to regulate the current flowing into the coil from the car's 12-volt supply. The cables that connect the ignition coil to the distributor, as well as the high voltage wires that connect the distributor to each of the spark plugs, are known as spark plug wires or high tension leads. Every ignition coil system originally required mechanical contact breaker points and a capacitor (condenser). Note: this product replaces: 667-1162379K, 736983850744, F12379, 116-2379K
