At both ends of the crankshaft are seals that prevent oil from leaking out of the engine. The front and rear primary seals are commonly referred to as such. Oil may build on the underside of the motor if a crankshaft seal leak is modest. What causes the failure of oil seals? After continuous exposure to high temperatures, high pressures, vibrations, and contact with hot fluids, even the best gasket or seal will develop leaks. Except in the most extreme circumstances of catastrophic failure, gasket leaks begin as drops that you may notice at first.
